Relativity Receives Launch Licence, Sets Launch Date

On 21 February 2023, the FAA granted Relativity Space a launch licence for the first launch of their Terran 1 rocket. The issued launch licence authorises Relativity to conduct pre-launch operations and launch operations at SLC-16. Since Relativity Space recieved its launch licence they have announced the launch date for the ‘Good Luck Have Fun’ (GLHF) mission, between 13:00-16:00 EST (18:00-21:00 UTC) on 8 March 2023.

All rockets and launch service providers using US airspace must acquire an FAA launch licence for all activities dealing with launching and recovering rocket hardware. This step is taken to guarantee the safety of the general public.

This launch licence is valid for 5 years (21st Feb 2028) and requires Relativity to provide the FAA with data about the splashdown location of the Terran 1 first stage, as well as a plan on the trajectory and a collision avoidance survey at least 7 days prior to launch.

Relativity are ready to go with Terran 1 currently out at SLC-16 at Cape Canaveral. Teams are continuing final prelaunch preparations on the vehicle as well as cramming in any tests they can to ensure a safe and success mission
