French startup Unseenlabs is poised to revolutionize radio frequency (RF) monitoring with their next generation of satellites, expanding their capabilities to observe emitters on land, in the air, at sea, and even in space.

This ambitious move aims to enhance global surveillance, including tracking RF emissions from smartphones, jammers, and maritime vessels.

Following the launch of two satellites on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rideshare in March, Unseenlabs now operates a constellation of 13 cubesats dedicated to maritime domain awareness. The company plans to further expand this constellation with four additional cubesats scheduled for launch later this year.

Looking ahead, Unseenlabs is heavily investing in a new generation of 150-kilogram satellites, which are set to begin launching in 2026.

“At the end of the journey, we will have a global constellation of around 20 satellites,” - Clément Galic, Unseenlabs CEO and Co-Founder

The decision to invest in these advanced spacecraft followed the successful demonstration of Unseenlabs’ spectrum-monitoring technology in space.

“We decided to invest in new birds to continue to perform maritime domain awareness but also to open new verticals,” - Clément Galic, Unseenlabs CEO and Co-Founder

This new generation of satellites will enable Unseenlabs to extend its monitoring capabilities beyond the maritime domain.

Unlike some competitors who rely on clusters of satellites to pinpoint RF signals, Unseenlabs employs individual satellites for this task.

The importance of maritime activity tracking was a prominent theme at the recent GEOINT Symposium, with multiple organizations showcasing their capabilities to pinpoint vessels.

“Maritime transport is strategic for everyone...Look at recent disruptions of maritime traffic. People lost billions of dollars and realized we were lacking tools to create safe maritime domain awareness.” - Clément Galic, Unseenlabs CEO and Co-Founder

With their new generation of satellites, Unseenlabs aims to address these gaps and provide comprehensive RF monitoring across various domains, enhancing security and situational awareness on a global scale.
