Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT) has announced an automated Ka-band ground network engineered to serve the evolving needs of small satellite constellations.

Dubbed the KSATlite Ka-band network, this groundbreaking solution stands ready to provide comprehensive assistance to compact satellite constellations engaged in data-intensive endeavours, such as Earth observation and communications, which often high-speed data transfers.

The KSAT approach involves the deployment of small-aperture antennas for S-band uplink and downlink, X-band downlink, and Ka-band downlink across six strategically chosen ground station locales.

"This fully automated tri-band satellite communication network will enable seamless communication across multiple frequency bands using a standardised four-channel baseband unit...Adding tri-band antennas at these selected sites around the world will further streamline operations, enhance resource allocation for optimal performance, and ensure reliable and secure communication regardless of geographical constraints." - KSAT

KSAT has proactively expanded its antenna network in recent years to accommodate the surging data traffic. The Norwegian firm unveiled its 23rd ground station in June, situated on South Korea’s Jeju Island.

“The launch of the KSATlite Ka-band network showcases our ability to provide seamless and versatile connectivity solutions to our customers, with exceptional reliability and unmatched performance” - Marte Indregard, KSAT's Chief Commercial Officer
