North Korea has launched a long range missile into space. The Hwasong-17 missile flew to an apogee of 5,700km (3,500miles) prior to falling back to Earth, landing 200km (125miles) west of Oshima Island, Japan (inside the Japan Economic Zone).

The Hwasong-17 uses liquid propellants requiring pre-launch injection and cannot remain fueled for longer periods of times.
No satellites have been reported to have been impacted by this launch. The ISS orbit had it clear of the region during the missiles flight.
