SpaceX has announced a new initiative to make its Starlink internet service more accessible to potential customers in the United Kingdom (UK).
In an email sent to potential customers, the company introduced a Starlink rental program that promises to significantly reduce the cost of the hardware required to access the satellite-based service.
Under the new program, customers in the UK will have the option to rent the necessary dish and router equipment, which can be quite expensive to purchase outright. According to the email, the rental program will be available to residential customers across the entire country.
Previously, SpaceX offered two hardware options for UK customers looking to access the Starlink service: a Standard option priced at £460 and a High Performance option priced at £2,410.
With the new rental program, customers can avoid the upfront costs of purchasing the hardware and instead pay a more affordable rental fee. The cost will be just £15 per month, with an initial payment of £99 required to place an order.
“There are no long term contracts, both hardware rental and service are charged month-to-month,” noted SpaceX’s email to potential customers.
Customers interested in owning the hardware required for SpaceX's Starlink internet service will need to pay a one-time fee of £460 for the dish and router, in addition to a monthly service fee of about £75. The payment for the Standard Starlink hardware is required upon signup.
According to SpaceX, the Standard Starlink option is ideal for residential users with basic internet needs, making it a suitable choice for those interested in purchasing the necessary hardware.
