Silicon Valley-based startup Muon Space, renowned for its pioneering work in developing small satellites for Earth monitoring and various applications, has secured $56.7 million in Series B funding. The significant investment was led by Activate Capital, with additional investments from Acme Capital and existing investors Costanoa Ventures, Radical Ventures, and Congruent Ventures.
The infusion of new capital is set to accelerate the development of Muon Space’s Halo low-Earth orbit satellite platform and bolster the scaling of the company's operations.
The startup has already reported over $100 million in committed customer contracts in 2024 for its small satellites, highlighting the growing demand and confidence in their technology.
In tandem with the funding announcement, Muon Space revealed a strategic partnership with aerospace and defense contractor Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC). This agreement entails the production of three satellites for SNC’s Vindlér commercial radio-frequency remote sensing system. The first of these satellites is scheduled for launch in 2025.
The Vindlér system aims to detect and geo-locate specific objects from low-Earth orbit using targeted radio frequency emissions. SNC has also partnered with Spire Global to launch the initial four satellites of the planned Vindlér constellation.
“This Series B funding round underscores investors’ confidence in Muon Space’s technology and market potential. With this capital raise, Muon Space plans to scale its operations, expand its product offerings, and continue to pioneer advancements in space-based sensing and analytics.” - Gregory Smirin, President of Muon Space
Muon Space’s innovative approach and strategic partnerships position the company as a key player in the space technology industry.
In May, the company announced an agreement with the nonprofit Earth Fire Alliance to build a satellite constellation focused on wildfire prevention and monitoring. This initiative underscores Muon Space’s commitment to leveraging its technology for critical environmental applications, further solidifying its role in advancing global satellite capabilities.
As Muon Space continues to grow and innovate, the new funding and partnerships signal a promising future for the company and its contributions to space-based monitoring and analytics.
