Taiwan Space Agency Rebrands As TASA Following Major Status Upgrade

Taiwans National Space Agency is now TASA (Taiwan Space Agency) following the agency received an upgraded in the Taiwan government, placing the agency under the Cabinet Level National Science and Technology Council (NSTC)

Taiwans National Space Agency is now TASA (Taiwan Space Agency) following the agency received an upgraded in the Taiwan government, placing the agency under the Cabinet Level National Science and Technology Council (NSTC)

TASA’s upgraded status aims to enhance national space technology research and development capabilities, to implement national space strategies and plans, and to promote the development of space activities and space industry.

The official restructuring occurred on January 1, 2023 in accordance with the Act for the Establishment of the Taiwan Space Agency. TASA says they will be looking to recruit around 300 new staff over the next 3 years to add to there current staff of around 200.

TASA is preparing Formosat-8, a constellation fo 6 high resolution optical remote sensing satellites to be launched over course of 2 years starting in 2024.

TASA is also preparing to launch TRITON (Wind Hunter Satellite) which will conduct air-sea interation and typhoon intensity prediction research. TRITON is slated to launch in 2023.

Since 1999, TASA has launched 5 satellites (Formosat-1, Formosat-2, Formosat-3, Formosat-5, and Formosat-7). Formosat-5 and Formosat-7 are still operational and
