SpaceX To Launch Amazon Project Kuiper Satellites In 2025

Amazon has inked a deal with SpaceX for three Falcon 9 launches with the missions scheduled to commence in mid-2025.

The launch contract announcement comes on the heels of Project Kuiper's recent milestone – the successful launch of two prototype satellites. The partnership with SpaceX is unique as SpaceX will be for the first time launching a competitor to there Starlink, to orbit, continuing to reflect SpaceX's stance of will fly basically anything for anyone.

Tests conducted during the mission have played a crucial role in validating the satellite design and network architecture. With the groundwork laid, Project Kuiper is gearing up for satellite manufacturing, set to precede a full-scale deployment slated to commence in the first half of 2024.

Amazon had previously secured heavy-lift rockets from Arianespace, Blue Origin, and United Launch Alliance (ULA) with the procurement of 77 rockets, providing substantial capacity for the majority of the satellite constellation. SpaceX's Falcon 9, a reliable and reusable two-stage launch vehicle, has a proven track record with over 270 successful launches to date.

Early customer pilots are expected to kick off in the second half of 2024 as Project Kuiper aims to bridge the digital divide and extend high-speed internet access to areas where traditional infrastructure is lacking.
